Masonry Constructions (NSW) Pty Ltd is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for staff, clients and subcontractors. This is best achieved by management and employees working together following a program of health and safety activities and procedures which are monitored, reviewed and audited to achieve best practice.

Masonry Constructions (NSW) Pty Ltd considers no phase of its operations of greater importance than safety and expects management and staff to ensure that safe personal behaviour at all times takes precedence over expediency.

Masonry Constructions (NSW) Pty Ltd undertakes to regularly review this policy to ensure continuous improvement in OHS performance and prevention of incidents and injuries inline with June 2010 legislation and technology.

OBJECTIVES

    • To provide safe and healthy work environment for all our staff, clients, visitors, general public and subcontractors.  To provide safe and healthy methods of work;
    • To provide a program of health and safety activities and procedures which are continually updated and effectively carried out,
    • To comply with all relevant laws, standards, codes of practice and best practice guidelines.

OHS PROGRAM TARGETS
The program relates to all aspects of health and safety including:

    • The provision of an appropriate health and safety management system
    • Ensure ongoing health and safety training and education employees, subcontractors and suppliers
    • The utilisation of a systematic risk management approach to the management of hazards
    • Consultation with employees and others on matters related to health and safety identified in the reporting statement
    • Communicate standard work methods to staff and others documented via policies and procedures
    • Communicate emergency procedures and drills
    • Train and implement Incident/accident reporting procedures, identify employee roles and responsibilities
    • Conduct and document regular workplace inspections and reporting
    • Ensure ongoing data collection and analysis of document for each project

MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY

Every member of the Masonry Constructions (NSW) Pty Ltd Management team is responsible for the implementation, promotion and maintenance of a health and safety system for Employees, Clients and Subcontractors. Managers are to ensure their team is aware of their occupational health and safety responsibilities.
Managers are required to provide supervision and training to ensure that safe and healthy procedures are followed and that unsafe methods and hazards are systematically identified, assessed and controlled.

Responsibilities in Detail      

DIRECTOR:

Roles

• To provide communication and leadership throughout the division with respect to Masonry Constructions (NSW) Pty Ltd vision, objectives and values.

• The role requires extensive management, communication, industry knowledge and interpersonal skills to lead Masonry Constructions (NSW) Pty Ltd in a strategic direction and achieve results through people.

• To provide overall leadership and management of designated groups of projects from hand-over to finalisation and review.

• The role requires sound and mature guidance and coaching, effective and continual physical and financial control and wise counsel for each project team based on extensive industry experience.

Duties

• Manage Safety Performance through continuous feedback from Senior Management via the safety audit system.

• Encourage the early discovery, communication and taking appropriate action to address problems without fear of blame.

• Provide regular updates on status of project activities to Manager

• Solid knowledge of Risk and Occupational Health and Safety regulations and application to potential projects

• Manage, control and feedback on key business processes:
- Conversion process
- Project reviews/post project reviews
- Internal controls e.g. Compliance with management authorities frameworks
- Corporate governance

• Drive Masonry Constructions (NSW) Pty Ltd OHS and Quality Assurance standards and procedures

• Monitor Safety performance by promoting the importance of safety at all times and by reviewing on a regular basis internal site safety audit results.

• Monitor and maintain project performance to verify achievement of forecast results and make sure forecasting techniques are adequate and appropriate.

• Expose and address potential problem areas and assist in finding solutions.

• Maintain and reinforce the Masonry Constructions (NSW) Pty Ltd culture with the project teams.

• Assist the Site Supervisor with client's needs and issues.

• Make sure that core skills of individual team members are regularly appraised and training and skills development activities are in place.

• Make sure management competencies are appropriate and systematically applied.


MANAGER

Reports To - Director:
Roles

• To take the lead role in the promotion and management of on site safety.

• Monitor Legislating requirements for OHS.

• Co-ordinate with the Masonry Constructions (NSW) Pty Ltd Return to Work coordinator the rehabilitation program for injured employees.

• To identify and report resource issues related to the management of the on site safety system

•To provide overall leadership and management of designated projects from conversion to hand over to finalisation and review.

• The role requires effective and continual physical and financial control, strong leadership and sound management for each project team.

Duties

• Ensure that Safety is a number one priority on site at all times.

• Manage the client and consultant interfaces.

• Manage and monitor monthly project reports and project forecasts and control variability.

• Discuss, develop and review alternative methods and materials with Site Supervisor.

• Prepare and monitor the site program and program in detail for finalisation

• Arrange and manage client and consultant meetings.

• Price, submit and negotiate variation claims in a timely manner.

• Monitor all aspects of administration including safety, site diaries, IR issues, etc.

OHS OFFICER

Reports To - Manager
Roles

• Take the lead role in the promotion and management of site safety.

• Ensure compliance with site safety plan, legislation, regulations, standards, codes.

• Implement the Masonry Constructions (NSW) Pty Ltd OHS & Injury Management procedures.

• Identify and report issues related to the management of the on site safety system

• Carry out monthly safety audits

Duties

• Ensure that OHS is a number one priority on site at all times.

• Review safety reports and inspections on site

• Prepare, present and/or participate in safety training as required

• Provide advice and assistance on OHS issues to site personal


SUPERVISOR

Reports To - Manager

Roles

•To manage, facilitate, advise, co-ordinate and control all aspects of the Site Safety Management System with the support of other team members.

• To support the Project Manager as an effective team member in the management of designated projects from conversion to hand over to finalisation and review.

Duties

• Ensure that OHS is a number one priority on site at all times.

• Action all safety reports, audits and items raised as a result of on site consultation procedures.

• Establish and coordinate all activities with site safety being a priority..

• Propose alternative materials and methods to Project Manager to save time and cost. Attend meetings and review progress weekly.

• Maintain site meetings and review progress weekly.

• Maintain site diary and make safety inspections daily.

• Collect and file delivery dockets, receipts and invoices.

• Review sub-contract packages, scope and lettings with Project Manager

• Prepare and update short range programs.

• Arrange for all inspections by clients, architects and consultants.

• Input to and administer site aspects of finalisation plans.


EMPLOYEES

Reports To - Supervisor

Roles

• To support all aspects of the Safety Management System.

• To support the Supervisor as an effective team member in the management of designated projects.

• The role requires effective and continual input to safety issues and solutions.

Duties

• Ensure that OHS is a number one priority on site at all times.

• To follow the direction of the Supervisors to ensure that all site activities are conducted with site safety being a priority.

• To report all safety issues and concerns to the Site Supervisor and assist with solutions and prevention.

• Collect delivery dockets, receipts and invoices where necessary.

• Establish and monitor quality standards.


SUBCONTRACTORS

Reports To - Supervisor

Roles

•To support and adhere to all aspects of the Masonry Constructions (NSW) Pty Ltd Site Safety Management System.

• To support the Supervisor in the management of designated projects.

• Effective and continual input to safety issues and solutions.

• All subcontractors must provide Masonry Constructions (NSW) Pty Ltd with copies of June 2010 Masonry Constructions (NSW) Pty Ltd workers compensation insurances. These are to be maintained on site and no works are to be undertaken without June 2010 copies issued to Masonry Constructions (NSW) Pty Ltd 's.

Duties

• Ensure that OHS is a number one priority on site at all times.

• To follow the direction of the Site Supervisors to ensure that all site activities are conducted with site safety being a priority.

• To provide Masonry Constructions (NSW) Pty Ltd with compliant and up to date Safe Work Method Statements for all works to be carried out on site.

• To report all safety issues and concerns to the Site Supervisor and assist with solutions and prevention.

• Ensure that all staff are provided with the appropriate safety equipment and training.

• Ensure all staff are inducted into and follow the steps outlined in the appropriate Safe Work Method Statements.

• Establish and monitor quality standards.


VISITORS

Reports To - Supervisor

(Individuals, statutory bodies, local council, and clients with various interests in the project will visit the site)

Duties

• Report to the Supervisor or Masonry Constructions (NSW) Pty Ltd representative upon entering the site. Do not enter any worksite area without notification.

• All visitors are required to follow Masonry Contructions (NSW) Pty Ltd Safety procedures while on worksites.
